siberia
Novosibirsk is due east of Moscow a mere 3400 kilometers. Somewhat of a modern city. It is the 3rd largest city in Russia. The population and industry grew rapidly after the completion of the Trans-Siberian Railway. My hotel was across the street from the Novosibirsk Opera House, which is the largest theater in Russia (yes, larger than the Bolshoi Theater). I wasn't able to find much for craft bars, but was able to locate one brewpub. It showed up on my beer app, but the GPS map and directions weren't perfect. After walking around without much luck, I decided to ask some people in the street. No English speakers, so I showed the address in Russian from my beer app, but no one seemed to know where it was. I finally stopped at a kiosk on a street corner with a little old lady in it and showed her the address. Even though she didn't speak any English, I was able to get the location through a series of hand gestures. I was only a couple blocks away, but it was around a corner and downstairs, so not completely obvious.
Tomsk is 265 miles north of Novosibirsk. Contrasting Novosibirsk, Tomsk has retained much of its older appeal with many historic locations and original establishments. It is one of the oldest towns in Siberia and is located on the River Tom. I was unable to locate any craft bars or brewpubs in Tomsk so I settled for a nice German restaurant that had a very large selection of German beer on tap. There is beer museum in Tomsk but I did not have time to see it. |

ПИВОFACTORY (BEER FACTORY) - NOVOSIBIRSK
A large restaurant that brews their own beer. I found the beer to be average to slightly below average in flavor, but fairly typical for Russian brewed beers. Location: Krasnyy pr., 22, Novosibirsk, Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia, 630007 Nearest Metro: Ploschad Lenina, Red Line Updated Jun '15 |
MÜNCHEN (MUNICH) - TOMSK
A quaint authentic German style restaurant with 30+ taps of great German and European (mostly Czech) beer. There were also a few taps of Russian beer. German-style waitresses and food. It's a definite must to walk around the city and along the River Tom. Afterwards, raise a glass of Munich Dunkel. Prosit! No website available. Location: Sovetskaya ul., 2, Tomsk, Tomsk Oblast, Russia, 634050 Nearest Metro: N/A Updated Jun '15 |
