Arizona
Arizona has a growing beer community. New breweries and beer pubs seem to be popping up left and right in Arizona. There are now more than 70 breweries across the state.
Wren House Brewery
This place has a true small craft brewery feel. Walked in ordered a flight, and found a very friendly group of people chatting at the bar. A very cozy and welcoming atmosphere, wish I could have stayed longer. They had seven of their own beers on tap, all very enjoyable. Flight ordered:

Helton Brewing Company
This is nice place with a true craft beer brewery feel. Big round bar area was great place to talk beer. Windows looking in on the brewing area. I was there late on a Monday night, so it was a not very busy. They had 9 beers on tap, including a nitro. Nice collection of beers: Pilsner, IPA, Scotch Ale, Milk Stout, Black ales, etc. They serve their flights in Muffin tins. Address: 2144 East Indian School Road, Phoenix Updated: Jan ’19 |
Mother Bunch Brewing Company
Great small brewery with a nice craft brewery feel. This place has been around serving beer since 2014. They have a nice menu of creative bar food. I recommend the hot soft pretzels, as an appetizer. They were wonderful. The beer list had about 20 of their own beers, wide array of IPAs, Sours, Gose, Saisons, Porters, Amber, Browns, even a cask IPA. They do not have flights but offer small pours, so you can enjoy many of their interesting beers. Address: 825 North 7th Street, Phoenix Updated: Jan ’19 |
Uncle Bear's Brewery
A nice large brewpub & restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. It's an interesting bar, where one side was outdoor seating the other side indoor. They also had 18 large TVs for sports. This is not what I would call a small brewpub but a place to go with a group to drink beer and watch Sports. They had about 10 of their own beers. I asked the bartender for another recommendation for local beer. She suggested a place called Bad Water Brewing in Scottsdale. I head up there only to find out they did not open until later in the afternoon. I then found another place just a few blocks away. Location: 4921 E Ray Road #103, Phoenix Updated Apr '16 |
Goldwater Brewing
This place is great, small in size, however big in atmosphere. Nice friendly, very large, bar with a good selection of their own beer. The picture to the right is the view from the street. They also have a nice bar top canning machine for take-home beer, which can be seen in the photo at the top of the page (center of photo). McFate Brewing
In June 2016, Fate Brewing changed it's name to McFate Brewing as a result of litigation between two breweries with similar names. McFate Brewing opened in August 2015. It is a large place but still has the brew pub with beer hall feel. It had a nice large outdoor sitting and drinking area as well. It should be noted they have two locations on Scottsdale. The place reviewed here is on Scottsdale Road. Nice selection of beer and food. Locations: 1312 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale 7337 E. Shea Boulevard. Ste 105 Updated Jun '16 |
Arizona Wilderness Brewing
Arizona Wilderness is one of the better breweries in the Phoenix metropolitan area. As can be derived from the name, they've tried to combine beer drinking with a wilderness feel as can be evidenced by their wooden tap handles and birch tree flight holders. Large selection of draft beer available that includes barleywine, sour beer, monastics ales, barrel-aged, saison and a variety of ales (IPA, stout, etc.). Location: 721 N Arizona Boulevard, Gilbert Updated Jan '16 |

The Beer Research Institute
Small microbrewery that may be the best brewery in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Another neat-themed brewery that helps generate conversation while drinking. Beer flights are served in beaker glasses in a heavy holder very similarly shaped to brass knuckles. The tap handles are large test tubes that once held yeast cultures. But the novelties aren't needed to sell their beer because they have a pretty good variety of great beer to satisfy your experimental urges. Four Peaks Brewing
I may be biased, but I don't know what all the fuss is about for this place. I had a few beers and all of them were average, at best. The place was crowded and the bartender was friendly and not so busy that she couldn't chat for a while. There are several places on this page that had way better beer than the ones I tried at Four Peaks. Good riddance to being a small local destination craft brewery since the acquisition by AB InBev. OHSO Eatery
OHSO (Outrageous Homebrewer's Social Outpost) is a nanobrewery and restaurant serving a few of their own brews and a lot of everyone else's beer. They have 3 locations in the Phoenix area. I went to the address listed below. I stopped on my way to their airport so only had time for a couple of quick ones and some lunchtime appetizers. The food and beer were good. The only negative was parking is extremely limited during the daytime. Location: 4900 E Indian School Road, Phoenix Updated Jan '16 |
Papago Brewery
You wouldn't know if from the outside, but this is quite large inside. They offer 30 taps of beer, but only a handful are brewed by Papago Brewing. Most of the taps are from breweries in the Western part of the US. There were a couple of East Coast beers and a couple of international beer. Location: 7107 E McDowell Road, Scottsdale Updated Jan '16 |
San Tan Brewery
Large brewery with lot of seating indoors and outdoors. This is one of the fastest growing breweries in the U.S. a couple years ago, but I found their beers to be closer to average than above. But no matter, people love their craft beer and there's plenty of room for average breweries. It's the below average breweries that should be concerned. Lots of taps and variety to choose from here. Location: 8 S San Marcos Place, Chandler Updated Jan '16 |
The Perch Pub & Brewery
Microbrewery which also serves up other local brews, some west coast brews, and a few other domestic brews. 30 taps of which about half are dedicated to The Perch's own beer with the remaining taps split among the other breweries. Standard pub fare food menu. Great outdoor seating area under large umbrellas and among planted trees and shrubs to help shield you from the hot Arizona summers. Location: 232 S Wall Street, Chandler Updated Jan '16 |
Two Brothers Scottsdale Taphouse & Brewery
Chicago area brewery with a second home in Scottsdale. With a 10-barrel brewing system, they serve up some of the regular Two Brothers brews along with some exclusive to Scottsdale. Also serving other domestically brewed beer from a handful of taps. Large, 2-floor indoor seating area with outdoor seating as well. However, the outdoor seating is adjacent to busy Scottsdale Road, so traffic noise can be bothersome. Location: 4321 N Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale Updated Jan '16 |
State 48 Brewery
This is a large brewing company which has 3 breweries in the Phoenix area and a fourth opening soon. The Van Buren location is large and beautiful with a nice restaurant. A very stylish place; not a small craft brewery atmosphere at all. The beer collection is also impressive; over 20 of their own beers on tap and another 10-15 beers from other craft breweries on tap, in bottles and cans. Addresses:
