Boulder
Avery Brewing
This was a wonderful place to visit. I am familiar with Avery and have had a few of the beers over the past couple of years, however I did not know much about the brewery. Avery moved into this new brewery 2-3 years ago. It is very large brewery with 3 nice and separate areas to enjoy their beer; a large patio outside, a 1st floor restaurant and bar, and a 2nd floor restaurant and bar area. The 2nd floor area is the largest. It has many tables and long bar with about 20 stools. The beer menu for the first floor and the patio look to be different than the 2nd floor menu, which is about 15+ beers. Note: 6 of the beers here had ABVs over 14% (see beer menu photo). However, that is not even the best part. In addition, they have a small bar on the mezzanine level overlooking the brewing area. I sensed this was almost like a secret area. If you did not know it was there you would not find it. I was told about it by the bar tender. Some of the beers here are one of a kind knock your socks off beers. I enjoyed 2 barrel aged sours; one in a Tequila barrel the other a Madeira barrel which has been aging in the barrel since 2014. Avery also had another truly unique, "Rangnarsdrapa". This beer is based on a recipe the Vikings used for fermented beverages (beer) around 900 AD. I usually am not a fan of the larger craft breweries, however while Avery is large they brew like a small innovative craft brewery. Their menu is full of unique one of a kind true craft beers. If you come to Boulder you really should stop by Avery. Beers Tasted:

Sanitas Brewing Company This is a wonderful place just about 5 minutes from the center plaza area. Sanitas is set up very nicely. Inside it has an open bar area with stools at the bar area and many tables for group to sit at. Outside there is a two tiered approach; a very large upper deck area with picnic tables and a taco bar. Then a lower ground level area with more tables, lounge chairs and a few games to play. I did not taste a taco, however from what I heard from others in the bar they were very good. Chris, one of the founders, was working the bar. He was a very nice and very open to answer any questions about their brews and the Boulder craft beer industry. They had about 10-12 beer available, all there own. Excellent collection of beer types; lager, IPA, Sour, Stout, Smash, Saison, Cask… Beers Enjoyed:

Bru
They identify themselves as "BRU Handbuilt Ales & Eats". From what I learned around town, this is fairly accurate. The place is known for their food as well as their beer. The founder was a chef who loved beer and decided to open a brew pub with fabulous food. Thus is a small bar and nice sized restaurant serving a nice collection of their own brews with a very creative food menu. I did eat lunch and found the food excellent. They had about 15 beers on tap. I enjoyed a 5-beer flight and an extra one...

Mountain Sun Pub and Brewery
Nice small brew pub with a full restaurant on the Pearl Street Mall. This mall is a 10 block long area where the street has been turned into a pedestrian plaza; full of shops, stores, restaurant and bars. The food menu looked good and the place had a nice local bar feel. They also and a very small sitting area outside the restaurant on the plaza. With limited time available we only had time to drink a couple beers. However the staff was very nice and encouraged us to tastes a couple beers in addition to the pints we orders. Beers enjoyed:

West Flanders Brewing Company
This Brewery is also on the Pearl Street Mall. They have a small patio area on the plaza along with a restaurant and bar area inside. The brewing tanks are right behind the bar, so as you sit and enjoy your beer you are looking right at the aging beers. Tanks are on the smaller side so you can see they are a true micro brewery. I arrived when were just opening for lunch. So it was a fairly empty at first, however, by the time I left there was a line to get tables for lunch. It is definitely a popular place for craft beer. I enjoyed a 4 beer flight.

J. Wells Brewery
This is an interesting place, set in a garage in a small industrial park. This small brewery and taproom focuses on British and West Coast-inspired beers. A true nano-brewery with batches of 1.5 barrels. Being there during St Patrick’s Day weekend, they did have a special Irish Ale for the occasion. Very relaxing sitting inside or out in the parking lot. Regular Beer Menu:
