Ireland
When you think of Ireland beer, probably the first thing that comes to mind is Guinness Stout. There is no argument from us that this is a great stout, especially on draft in Ireland, but did you also know that craft beer has been gently foaming up in Ireland the past few years? Most of these, however, are outside of Dublin but you can still find them at various craft beer bars or their own brewpub. When a craft brewery opened in Limerick in 2014, it was the first new brewery in 130 years.

Guinness Storehouse
Without a doubt, the Guinness Storehouse is the king of all destination breweries. Although technically, it's not the brewery as St James's Gate Brewery resides next door. What the Guinness Storehouse is, is a gigantic homage to all things Guinness. Your entry ticket gets you a self-pace tour through 7 floors of history and amazing exhibits while learning about Guinness brewing. The first floor includes a massive retail area, a bottle collection of various beer bottles dating back to the original bottles, and a 250-year chronicle of the life of the founder. From the first floor, start walking through a collection of amazing exhibits to help you understand their brewing process. Along the way, you will find a number of cafes and bars on various floors to take a break and savor the Storehouse experience. As you walk up 7 floors through the world's largest pint glass, you will enjoy various exhibits featuring old brewing equipment and other delights, you will eventually find yourself at the Gravity Bar, where you can claim your pint of Guinness and enjoy an amazing 360-degree view of Dublin, the skyline, Dublin Bay and the mountains. Against the Grain by Galway Bay Brewery
Against the Grain is one of seven craft beer bars around Dublin by Galway Bay Brewery. Additionally, there are 4 others in Ireland, including the original brewpub in Galway. There are 26 taps plus a few hand pumps of which about half of them were serving a variety of Galway Bay Brewery beer and the other half poured a nice selection of Irish craft beer beer plus a few international beers. Lots of seating inside on 2 levels and a few tables outside on the sidewalk in front of the brewery. For eating, they offer a good selection of pub food. J.W. Sweetman
JW Sweetman is one of just a few brewpubs located in Dublin. But while they do brew beer on-site, it's probably better labeled a craft beer sports bar. There were just a few of their own beers on tap supplementing a number of local craft beer options. Located in a more than 200-year old building, the JW Sweetman brewing establishment dates back another 50 years. With several TVs and a good selection of beer, this place is very busy on game days - Rugby and Gaelic Football. Enjoy a meal as well from their full restaurant menu. I really enjoyed my visit here talking with local football fans cheering for their favorite team. Location: 1-2 Burgh Quay, Dublin Updated Sep '17 |
Porterhouse Brewing - Temple Bar
Porterhouse Brewing operates several bars in Dublin as well as one in New York and one in London. I believe they do some brewing at this location, or at least used to, but I did not see any brewing equipment while I was there. They offer of to 12 taps of their own beer and supplement this with several large coolers full of international craft beer options, including other local Irish craft beers. You should have no problem finding something you'll enjoy. There is also a good Irish pub food menu available. Location: 16-18 Parliament Street, Dublin Updated Sep '17 |
