Fairplay, Colorado
South Park Brewing
We found this place in Fairplay, Colorado as we drove from Denver to Crested Butte. South Park which opened in 2014, is easy to find as it is right on highway 285. It is also helpful that it is at the only stoplight on Hwy 285 in Fairplay. The place is large with a nice bar and very spacious area for table seating. They also had a good selection of beers; 8 of their own brews on tap. They had a few interesting ones; such as a Imperial S'mores Stout, a Cherry Blonde (a bit fruity) and a Grapefruit Session IPA. Crested Butte, COLORADO
The Eldo - Brewery and Taproom
This is an old place in the middle of downtown Crested Butte. Crested Butte is a great out of the way small town with a lot going on. It started as a mining town in the 1800’s and then migrated from a ski town in the 1960’s and now a year round resort. It is like the old one street town. The main street has all the bars, restaurant, stores, and shops. this set up, along with the unique culture and the locals have earned Crested Butte the identity of being “the last great Colorado ski town”. The Eldo was busy, loud and with an energetic atmosphere. They had four of their own beers on tap. It was a bit disappointing that one of their other taps had just run dry. It should be noted that most of the beer drinkers appeared to the the young locals. I sense the tourist in this resort town did not know abut this place. Also note, the Eldo does serve food. HOPS Culture
Walking around town we found “HOPS Culture” a very small open air beer tent in the middle the boulevard. It is not a brewery, but more of a taproom serving Colorado craft beers and food. We sat on picnic tables under an awning and enjoyed a few beers in the sunshine. Location: 414 E Hyman Ave, Aspen, CO Updated Jul '16 |
Aspen Brewing Company
Aspen Brewing Company was a great place for some good beer. It is a small taproom on the second floor about a restaurant. The beer was excellent, they had about 7-8 of their own beers on tap. In addition to the indoor seating, they also have a small outdoor area where you can see the ski runs, nice view. However there is only about 4 tables our there, so you may need to be a bit lucky to get a table outside. The guy serving beer was Justin. He was very helpful, nice and beer knowledgeable.
