A Beer Trek in Penang
It was a bit surprising to discover there was a new craft beer establishment in Penang. The company has a great name, “Penang Craft Beer”. However we must always remember things are not as they appear. Malaysia has some strict brewery regulations that have basically stopped the craft brewing community from even getting started. However with this rumor as my motivation I set out to enjoy a few. The journey for a few beers turned out to be a bit of an adventure. They do not have a tap room. So with a little research and a lot of walking around old Georgetown, I was able to find each of their three beers. A local website for Penang cuisine listed possible restaurants that carried at least one of these new brews. Please pay attention to the hours they are open. The first two I visited were closed (Inch Food and Mish Mash). In the end I found the IPA at the Campbell's Hotel bar, a nice small hotel with a restaurant and bar. The Seven Terrace Hotel bar had the IPA and the Red Door (red ale). The Eighty Eight restaurant which was very nice and a bit upscale boutique-like had all three beers. Now the illusion, these beers are brewed for Penang Craft Beer by Bay Bridge Brewing in the USA (California). Hotel Campbell Bar
