J. Wakefield
J Wakefield was number one on list of breweries to visit in Miami and I wasn't disappointed. All the beers I tried were outstanding and I even got lucky with a bottle release that included a collaboration with a top-rated brewery in my home state of Minnesota - Forager Brewing. Medium-sized taproom painted with some neat murals from local artists on the walls. I've heard they've practically outgrown their space here and are looking to up size. There were 15 beers on draft with some neat sours. Honestly, I think these guys are underrated, at least by the beer I drank. It's not too often I visit a brewery where every one I try is 'gold'. Flagler Village Brewery/The Brass Tap
Fort Lauderdale bar and restaurant which also includes a small 2-barrel nano brewery. There were only a few of their beers on tap but they also had a very huge selection of local, regional and global beers to choose from. There is a large outdoor patio and bar and they have a good pub food menu. Location: 551 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale Updated Nov '18 |
Odd Breed Wild Ales
As the name implies, Odd Breed focuses on wild ales. They opened in 2017 and were Florida's first brewery to focus on barrel-aged wild ales. They use their own proprietary blend of wild yeast and souring bacteria. Most of the wort is brewed off-site and then transferred to Odd Breed for oak barrel-aging. This is a great place for sour lovers. Location: 50 NE 1st St, Pompano Beach Updated Nov '18 |
Funky Buddha Brewing
Large production brewery with large taproom and game area. There is a large tap list to select, which was packed full of their average, at best, year-round beers along with a handful of barrel-aged beers. I was going to eat here because they have a nice pub food menu but the service was slow, so I decided to look elsewhere after drinking a few below average beers. If you're looking for great beer, then look elsewhere. But if you want a night out with friends for fun, food and a variety of beer to choose from, it's a good option.
