Saltbox Brewing Company
A great small brewery in Mahone Bay, NS; (about an hour outside of Halifax). A nice small town with brightly painted Victorian homes and shops, sailboats in the harbor, and three world-famous churches all at the water’s edge. However it was a bit touristy. The brewery had a nice friendly small town feel, with indoor and outdoor beer table seating. They had about five beers on tap, all very relaxing on wonderfully sunny summer day. Beers we enjoyed:

Breton Brewing
Breton is a small city on the northern coast of Nova Scotia. We had heard good things about this place and their beer. So we had to go on an adventure to find them. It is located in a small industrial area. Nice indoor sitting area with a very comfortable bar with beer hall picnic tables. See picture to the right. Outside has a great patio area as well. They had 6 of their own beers on tap and a very knowledgeable beer-pourer, Kirstie. They serve flights which makes it easy to sample a few of their beers.

Propeller Brewing Company
A well-known and established Microbrewery. They have been brewing in Nova Scotia for 20 years. Excellent taproom with a small store to buy beer to take with you. This had a great selection of the beer. It must be good as there was a line of people buying beer to go. In the taproom they had 13 of their own beers on tap. Their four-beer flight make is easy to taste a few different beers. They also brew a few small batch experimental beers as well, see menu to the right. Governors Pub and Eatery
I need to note up front that this is an unusual entry. While this is a nice restaurant, that is not why I am mentioning this. They have an interesting outdoor beer garden with an eclectic selection of craft beers from across Nova Scotia. It had about 12 beers from an odd collection on breweries and beer types. If you are walking along the waterfront, this a great place to rest your feet and have a couple of fun beers. They serve 4 beer flights, which is great if you enjoy tasting a few different beers.
