Boston
Cambridge Brewing Company
This place is located right on the edge of the MIT campus. It is tucked away in the corner of a large patio area behind a BBQ joint, which may make it difficult to find unless you are looking for it. They have indoor and outdoor seating along with a full menu and a good collection of their own crafted beer. I was happy to see a few sours to choose from, as well. We were hoping to sit outside, however the patio was packed so we chose to eat dinner inside rather than wait for a table to open up. The dinner seating area had a nice craft beer pub feel as the brewing equipment is right in the room with you. They had two pre-selected 4-beer flights to choose from. I prefer to select my own, however one flight option had 4 beers I would likely have chosen. Location: One Kendall Square, Cambridge Updated: Aug '16 |
Meadhall
This place is a couple block walk from Cambridge Brewing Company. It is a taproom with beers from around the world. Although they do not brew their own beer, their beer selection is fabulous. See the menu to the right. Also, as the name implies, they had about 15 meads to choose from. This was a nice place, a bit high class and fancy. It does not have a craft beer pub feel at all. Location: 4 Cambridge Center, Cambridge Updated: Aug '16 |
Salem Beer Works
Many of you may be familiar with Salem for the notorious Witch Trials. After checking out the numerous tourist sites, stop at one of the local breweries for a beer or two. Salem Beer Works is part of the larger Beer Works chain of restaurants and breweries in the greater Boston area. Each of them has their own brewery that brews their standard beer and perhaps something unique to that location only, as does Salem Beer Works. They have 16 beers on tap with a few of their own and a cask conditioned beer. Pub fare food available. Location: 278 Derby Street, Salem Updated Aug '15 |
Boston Beer Company (Sam Adams)
I've been to the Sam Adams brewery in Boston many times and each time it just seems to get bigger and bigger inside the brewery. There is always something new. The last time, they had many, many wooden barrels stacked up all over the place. The tour is always very informative and lots of fun. And of course, the best part is drinking some good Sam Adams beer after the tour. It's a must if you are in Boston and like brewery tours. Location: 30 Germania Street, Boston Updated Jan '15 |
Mystic Brewery
Mystic Brewery's focuses on the farmhouse ales. Tucked in the back of an industrial building just north of downtown Boston in Chelsea, this small brewery is brewing large flavorful beers. Large interior and a good sized brewing system with barrel-aging, as well. Each of the beers I tried were quite good. You can order pizzas here which are delivered from the pizzeria down the street. There is a large, on-site parking lot, which is very convenient. Bartender was very knowledgeable about their beers and craft beer in general. It was quite busy on a mid-Thursday afternoon. Location: 174 Williams Street, Chelsea Updated Aug '16 |
Trillium Brewing
Trillium is one of the top rated breweries in the world as rated by multiple beer websites, as well they should be. If you have an opportunity to visit or at least drink some of their beer, don't pass it up. There are 2 locations in the Boston area. The location in Boston does not have sampling available and it is only for growler fills or retail sales. The location in Canton has sampling/full pours available but their is a limit as to how much can be consumed on-site. Growler fills and retails sales are also available in Canton. Trillium is a must go-to brewery, whether you are in the area or not. Location: 110 Shawmut Road, Canton Updated Aug '17 |
Night Shift Brewing
Night Shift opened in 2012 and is located just north of Boston, in Everett. Easy access with parking available in their shared lot or on the street. Large interior and a good sized outside patio. Friendly place with knowledgeable staff and lots of friendly tourists willing to engage in conversation. Oh, and lots of good beer too. I especially enjoyed the Harborside Gose which was brewed with oysters for the sea salt flavor. Very tasty. Snacks available at the bar and a food truck is on site most open nights. Location: 87 Santilli Highway, Everett Updated Aug '16 |
Idle Hands Craft Ales
Located in close proximity to Night Shift, just a couple miles away. This is a new location as they lost their lease at the prior location in Everett. Nice interior with plenty of room for expansion. They have plans to add an outdoor patio soon. Idle Hands primarily focuses on Belgian inspired ales. On-site parking available. Light pre-made/store bought food available. Location: 89 Commercial Street, Malden Updated Aug '16 |
Somerville Brewing Company (Slumbrew)
Slumbrew appears to be the branding name for the Somerville Brewing Company. Brewery and pub restaurant just moved into a new location with more brewing capacity. I only had time for one beer, but it was pretty decent tasting. Small parking lot adjacent to the taproom. Location: 15 Ward Street, Somerville Updated Aug '16 |
Lamplighter Brewing Co
Lamplighter brewery is a combination brewery/coffee house although there is different ownership of the coffee house, they share the same space. Sitting at the bar in this Cambridge establishment provides a nice window view of the brewery so you can enjoy your beer while while watching them brew the beer. A variety of beer is offered so that everyone can find something to enjoy but there is an emphasis on the popular New England IPA style as well as barrel-aged sours. Snacks are available or you can bring in your own takeout from numerous nearby options. Location: 284 Broadway, Cambridge Updated Oct '18 |
