Alvarado Street Brewery
Alvarado's motto must be "We have good beer, but you can't drink it here." I stopped in here with a colleague for some beer and food because I had heard good things about their beer. It was busy but not packed, so it was very surprising that the servers tried to rush us out the whole time we were there. They kept trying to clear our table while we were still eating and in fact, even took our half-eaten appetizers without asking us. After a couple of beers, they simply brought our check and didn't even ask if we wanted anything else. Considering there were open tables and we were simply talking between ourselves, it was a very unusual situation, to say the least. Since they obviously didn't want our business, we paid the bill and left without drinking additional beer. I had planned to go here a couple times during my week in Monterey since it was just down the street from my hotel, but after the poor treatment , I decided to take my beer enjoyment elsewhere. There's no arguing the beer was good. They had lot's of IPAs on their list of about 10 beers with another 5 or 6 guest beers. The food wasn't bad either although it's a very small pub menu from which to choose. Location: 426 Alvarado Street, Monterey Updated Jan '17 |
Peter B's Brewpub
Peter B's is just off of Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. Lots of TVs (18) scattered around the bar and restaurant area for your enjoyment of your favorites sports program while drinking their craft beer. There were about 12 different beers on tap and everyone was a different style. Standard pub fare food available. There is a nice patio outside with a fireplace to help you stay warm in the evening as the cool breeze blows in off the ocean. Location: 2 Portola Plaza, Monterey Updated Jan '17 |
Cannery Row Brewing
Cannery Row is a waterfront Street in Monterey that used to be home to several sardine canning factories. Now it is home to numerous bars, hotels and a variety of shops as well as a few fishing companies. Some of these reside in the old canning factories. Sea lions are abundant along the waterfront and have become a big tourist attraction. The Monterey Aquarium also is located at the end of Cannery Row. Most of the bars and restaurants have standard international lagers and maybe a few regional craft beer selections. The exception is Cannery Row Brewing which is more a craft beer bar than a brewery. It is a beer lovers mecca in Monterey with more than 70 taps of international beer as well as some bottle selections. The night I was there, they only had one of their own beers on tap and I did not try it opting instead for several beers which I hadn't been able to track down previously. Typical pub fare served with only a few 'seafood' options. Nice outdoor patio with several fireplace tables to sit around. Location: 95 Prescott Avenue, Cannery Row, Monterey Updated Jan '17 |
