Wooden Hill Brewing
Edina was slow to react to the rapidly growing craft beer scene but when it finally relented, Wooden Hill took advantage of it in the spring of 2018. The 10-barrel brewery has a nice-sized, open taproom with plenty of seating and lots of standing room, if needed. The taproom opens to a small patio out front. Food is served from their kitchen consisting of a small pub-style menu. Location: 7421 Bush Lake Road, Edina Updated: Oct '18 |
Torg Brewery
One of the few north suburb breweries, to a welcome 20118 addition to the area. Family-operated 10-barrel brewery in Spring Lake Park. They are on the second floor of a small office building but have a large taproom and plenty of space in the brewery for future expansion. One interesting concept is that there are no TVs in the taproom, intended to allow patrons to better socialize with each other. But this may hurt them compared to other breweries with TVs. There are a lot of professional sports teams in MN. Food truck on weekends and local restaurants will deliver orders to the brewery. Location: 8421 University Ave NE, Spring Lake Park Updated: Nov '18 |
Birch's Lowertown
Sister brewery to Birch's on the Lake in the west end of the Twin Cities. Serving mostly the same beers (8 taps) but included a couple different beers from the other location. An equally large establishment located directly across the street from CHS Field (minor league baseball park). Small food menu available which is prepared by Octo Fishbar, an eatery located in the same building. There is a piano bar lounge located in the basement and is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Location: 289 5th Street East, St Paul Updated: Jan '19 |
Tanzenwald Brewing
Small town brewery located about 45 miles south of the Twin Cities. Medium-sized taproom with a large u-shaped bar. There were 8 beers on tap (both ales and lagers) when I was there brewed in their 10-barrel brewhouse. Decent pub food available from their small kitchen. I brought guests from Korea and overall, we had a good time and enjoyed the beer and food. Location: 103 Hwy 3 North, Northfield Updated: Jan '19 |
Garphish Brewing
Garphish is located in the far north suburb of Bethel, about 35 miles north of the Twin cities. This local brewpub is located in an old church building which was later the city hall. There are still some old antique relics in the building. They have a small but spacious taproom with a stage for weekend music. There are 8 taps and the beer styles were generally generic styles. Location: 165 Main Street, Bethel Updated: Feb '19 |
Spilled Grain Brewing
Spilled.Grain is located about 50 miles west of the Twin Cities but worth the drive. They are brewing up some very good, award-winning brews. With 14 beers on tap, there is a good selection of ales and lagers to choose from. Beside the good-sized main taproom, there is an overflow seating area back by the brewing system which has a few tables and some stand-up table games. Snacks are available for purchase or you can bring in your own food. Location: 300 Elm Street East, Annandale Updated: Feb '19 |
The Nordic Brewing Company
Nordic is another far NW suburb recent entry into the Minnesota craft beer scene. Extremely large taproom for just a 3-barrel brewery, so they certainly have room to grow. They also have a large room for a band, which was playing on the weekend night that I was there. I got a chance to have a good chat with one of the owners and head brewer. He likes to experiment with his beers and you will see some of this on their tap list. There was a nice variety. Location: 530 Cedar Street, Monticello Updated: Feb '19 |
Rustech Brewing
Rustech opened in the summer of 2018 is located on the opposite side of the highway from Nordic Brewing in Monticello. They have a comfortable, cozy, rustic taproom and a 5-barrel brew house. There was a nice selection of 8 beers to choose from. I especially enjoyed their milkshake IPA. One of the best I've ever had. Location: 105 W 3rd Street, Monticello Updated: Feb '19 |
