Brimmer Beer Box
This is a very small tap room for the larger Brimmer Brewing. I did not enjoy this beer at all and neither did my friends. With less than a handful of different styles, it's not a destination spot. But if you are in the area, why not... Location: N/A Update: Brimmer Beer Box has recently permanently closed. Updated Jun '16 |
Hitachino Brewing Lab
Hitachino Brewing Lab brews the Hitachino Nest beer. If you've been anywhere in Asia, you undoubtedly have come across Hitachino Nest beer. Located in the Manseibashi Station complex, which is a strip mall-like shopping area. It also overlooks the Kanda River. I was rushed, trying to squeeze in a quick beer before heading to the airport, so it as a very short visit for a quick beer and a sandwich. Light food fare is served. Although I didn't get a chance to talk with anyone, supposedly hands-on beer classes are provided here. This is not the main brewery at this location but they do brew some beers on-site. Location: Maach Ecute Kanda Manseibashi N1, 1-25-4 Kanda-Sudacho, Chiyoda Nearest Metro: Akihabara Station, multiple lines, including Yamanote and Hibiya Lines Updated Nov '15 |
Ushitora Beer Bar 1 and 2
These 2 beer bars are in opposite direction and equidistant from the Shimo-Kitazawa metro station in the bar and cafe heavy district of Setagaya. Besides being in the opposite direction they are also completely opposite as far as style and appeal. Ushitora 1 is larger and more formal with about 15 places to sit at the bar and another 30-40 seats around tables. A nice Japanese pub food menu is available and they are open for lunch. There are 30 taps, of which 3 are hand-pump. About a third of the taps are serving their own beer and the others are pouring good Japanese craft beer. Ushitora 2 is a small, standing only bar that holds a maximum of 10-15 people. About half the taps of the other bar and serving a combination of their own beer and Japanese craft beer. Not open for lunch and the food menu is much lighter Japanese pub snacks. The Ushitora beer is quite good - all styles, and I highly recommend it. Beer is not brewed on-site at either location and the main brewery is located Shimotshuke Tochigi. Watering Hole/Tharsis Ridge
There are numerous craft beer bars in Tokyo, some of which are mentioned on this site. I went to this location because of the co-owned nano brewery - Tharsis Ridge. Unfortunately, the brewery was not operational. As I understood it, they are moving to a bigger location, so unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of their beers. The bar had 21 beers on tap which were predominantly a mix of Japan craft beer and American West Coast craft beer. There was a couple of hand pumps, as well. Japanese/America pub food available. Mikkeller Bar
Located along a back street of the Shibuya district, it will take some navigating to locate. But once here, you will find similar decor and the same great Mikkeller beer as you can find at other Mikkeller Bar locations around the world. It's not a large bar, but it has 2 levels which includes a few tables upstairs. The main bar area opens up nicely to the street through a large window. There are 20 beers on tap, mostly Mikkeller, but there were a couple Japanese guest beers and a few nice selections from some great US breweries. Nakameguro Taproom
Nakameguro Taproom by Baird Beer is one of several Baird taprooms located in Tokyo. Each of Baird Beer's taprooms specializes in a different type of food - Nakameguro's specialty is New-Haven style (thin crust) pizza. I tried on and I found it to be one of the best pizzas I've found in Tokyo. This taproom features a nice large bar and plenty of beer hall style seating from which to enjoy a meal and a selection of 26 taps of Baird Beer plus another 3 hand pumps. Location 1: Kamimeguro, GT Plaza C Block, 2F Chome−1−3, Meguro-ku Nearest Metro: Ebisu Station, Multiple Lines Updated Jun '17 |
Brussels Beer Project
Brussels Beer Project just opened in May 2017. If you are a fan of Belgian ales, this is a good place to start. Nice bar area with seating for about 10-12 people and a few tables in the back with more seating upstairs. 18 taps serve up a combination of Brussels Beer Project beer and other international craft beer. Full pours are only 250 ml which may make it one of the most expensive places to drink beer in Tokyo with an average price of 1100 Yen for the full pour. Some of the beers are collaborations with Japanese influence. Food menu is available here.
